Description
Doleen Quay House is a perfect holiday destination for families, activities are abundant for kids to enjoy without even leaving the property! Whilst the kids are sailing on their dinghy boats swimming in the bay or just fishing off the rocks you can sit back relax and enjoy a glass of wine.
Doleen Quay House is a sea lodge set at the edge of the Atlantic Ocean with a private beach and panoramic views of the western Atlantic Sea. Set in a South Westerly position, the house faces the sea to the South West, and the Twelve Pins mountains and Foreglass Lake envelope the house from the North East. Almost every room in the building has a special view. It is tastefully decorated in neutral and coastal colours and clean linear concepts inspired by the owner who travels and lives afar.
It is a place to come home to, a perfect peace haven, a place to rest, reflect and disconnect from the outside world. The perfect romantic getaway or writers retreat – as well as the perfect place to explore the West of Ireland.
The house is set over three buildings which are inter-connected by two sunrooms, the bedrooms are located in the outer wings and the centre building contains the kitchen, dining room and living room.
The experience is a marriage of old and new, harmony and calm giving way to spacious and comfortable living in this simple but classic home. It is the ideal base to explore the rest of Connemara or indeed to get away from the rest of the world.
The house is supplied with fine china, crystal and quality 100 % linen and 100% cotton quality bedding including down duvets and quality towelling.
The Sunroom/entrance area (connects building one and two)
The large sunroom facing East and West is a glass room designed to greet the morning sun as it rises in the East over the mountains and also meets the Sun as it sets in the evening to the Sea. Decorated with an ancient door from Zanzibar and some other far-world ornaments – it is also a wonderful place to have an early morning yoga session or to stop and think at the beginning of the day.
The Kitchen (building two)
The kitchen is designed around a 3m polar ice quartz island – one side of the island is guested by four seating stools and four seating chairs. The other side of the island holds all the cooking and tableware neatly contained in the custom-designed sliding drawers. Each of the large drawers has a secret compartment drawer also useful for keeping smaller items organized.
A state-of-the-art double digital oven provides for wonderful cooking experience and warming drawers to keep your food hot whilst waiting for your guests. The star of the island is a large touchpad induction hob (with a built-in extraction fan) that allows you to cook delicious meals whilst you simultaneously enjoy a drink with your friends across the island. The kitchen as we all know is where the world gathers to talk and is a wonderful place to entertain as well as cook. Another key feature worktop counter is the Qooker Hot Water tap, this tap with safety features provides instant hot water as well as the normal functions of a tap – so no need for any extra appliances or waiting for the kettle to boil!
A large dishwasher, large sliding larder drawers and an ample-sized fridge are elegantly contained behind ceiling-length kitchen doors. The island and countertops are also lit by LED colour-changing lights - should you care to set the mood and invite your guests to a cocktail or two in the crystal glassware.
The Dining room
The open-plan dining room invites you to sit at an original Edwardian table and seats up to 14 guests and also has views of the ocean and sunset as you dine with friends or chat over some drinks.
Sitting room /lounge
Set behind a glass gable, the living room faces the sea and sits underneath a cathedral ceiling and a large mirror globe chandelier. Decorated in neutral colours and clean lines, the large white sofas and chaise lounges allow you to unwind and relax as you watch the sky and sea perform the latest marine or celestial show.
The windows are fitted with electric blinds which you can open and close at the touch of a button should you care for some shade or more privacy – although looking straight ahead – Newfoundland is the next stop - Alcock and Brown no doubt crossed the over and above here!
Junior Suites
The two outer wings house 4 bedrooms, two junior suites and two king-size bedrooms upstairs. The junior suites are all served with electric blinds and four-poster king-size beds. The suites all have walk-in tropical rain showers/en-suites which are decorated with large Carrera porcelain tiles and a novel Wi-Fi LED mirror which allows you to listen to your favourite music as you wake to the day or soothe your troubles away in the evening. Both junior suites are decorated with antique Irish cast iron fire mantles with the finest craft and cherub-like relief work. Both suites also have expresso machines.
Two king-size beds in upstairs bedrooms
The two upstairs bedrooms have king-sized beds and are decorated with aqua-upholstered velvet beds, rich quality linen and an aqua-tiled tropical rain shower in the en-suite shower/bathrooms – The perfect place for a peaceful sleep.
Master Quay Suite Bedroom –
A state-of-the-art locally handcrafted glass stairway takes you to the master suite settled above the main building. The master suite enclosed with glass banisters is situated in the mezzanine with a free-standing bath overlooking the ocean. The uninterrupted sea views will have you soak your worries away under the stars or in the glorious morning sunlight. The master suite also has a separate shower/bathroom and a large walk-in tropical shower room. Set above the sea this is a magical place to rest and reflect. A structured but soft, super king, velvet, cornflower blue bed takes you to sleep underneath the stars.
The master suite also has a comfort feature with a fridge, expresso machine and fine delph – should you care to linger for longer in your heaven before joining the rest of your friends and family below.
The basement
Another glass stairway leads you down to the basement (60m) which is home to the laundry room the control room of the house and heating systems as well as a large storage area.
The double washing machine and drying facility provide you with a chance to do all the laundry at once. The basement is also a work in progress (and some parts of the house) and will eventually become a much-awaited wine cellar and/or gym. In the meantime, it is - what you want it to be. The perfect place to store all your suitcases for long-term guests and all your cycling or photography equipment or gallery space or another yoga space.
Heating and hot water
The house is designed with an eco-friendly air-to-water heating system. The system allows you to have a tropical setting of 30 degrees or a pleasant ambient setting of 16-18 degrees, this is entirely at your fingertips. The residence is equally fitted with an air-conditioning system that circulates fresh air at regular intervals, which are timed and monitored from the control room in the basement and monitors in the rooms.
The Beach!
Doleen Quay House is a unique beachfront holiday home positioned within 40 meters of a white sandy beach. This property is a fisherman’s delight, a writer's retreat, a yoga sanctuary and a kid's dream all in one location. You can dip into the sea for an early morning swim, fish off the rocks, children can sail their dinghy or go snorkelling in the bay directly from the house. A yoga session in the early morning sunrise or sunset on the beautiful beach is equally another special opportunity the location offers.
