As we walked through the entrance gates and stood in the colourful, mature garden of this pretty stone cottage, looking out towards the pleasing rural scene of the undulating hilltops of the Sierra de Lujar, it was hard to believe that we were only 450m from the main square of the lively local town of Órgiva.
It is this enviable location that makes Casa Buganvilla such a sought after holiday home. Stone walls, strewn with the bright blooms of trailing plants, surround a garden that is private and enclosed and yet just a short walk away is the bustling centre of the typical Alpujarran town with its animated weekly market and local bars, cafes and restaurants.
With Órgiva so close to hand and the picture postcard mountain villages and scenic walking trails of this unquestionably picturesque region just a short drive away, this is an ideal base from which to explore the area. You may, however, simply wish to relax in the charming accommodation where an open plan living room displays an attractive exposed wooden ceiling, local ceramic tiles and a charming brick archway leading the way to the kitchen. Patio doors make this area light and bright and provide easy access to a pretty covered terrace, which looks out across the garden and pool towards the peaks of the nearby mountains, visible beyond. The in-built barbecue that is conveniently situated to the side makes this an ideal spot for meals al fresco.
